What is an Aqua Lung and how does it work?

What is an Aqua-Lung? The Aqua-Lung is an open circuit, self-contained breathing device. Aqua-Lungs are a self-contained breathing device that was developed in the early days of modern technology. They quickly became very popular and have enjoyed commercial success all over the world. This type of equipment has become known as a twin-hose diver regulator and a demand valve. Aqua-lungs were created by Emile Gagnen and Jacques Cousteau.

Jacques Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau, in the 1940s, created the first underwater breathing apparatus that was self-contained and open-circuit. His design was built on a demand valve that provided compressed air to divers for underwater breathing. The Aqua lung, also known as the Aqua-Lung, opened the doors to diving for anyone who wanted to learn more about the sport. Aqua-Lungs were the norm for divers worldwide thanks to Cousteau.

Emile Gagnan

Emile Gagnan and Jacques-Yves Cousteau invent the Aqua Lung in the 1940s. Its original design derives from earlier designs of diving helmets that were made in the 19th Century. It allows underwater divers breathe through a mouthpiece which releases compressed air when activated by their breath. Gagnan later refined the device's regulator valve, which automatically feeds compressed air to the diver's mouthpiece in proportion to the amount of breath that the diver takes. This was a major breakthrough in diving, allowing divers to explore the ocean depths for scientific observation and military purposes, as well as recreational reasons.

The first opencircuit demand regulator

Cousteau created the Aqua-Lung and patent it in 1946. The Aqua-Lung has been a favorite scuba regulator for many years. Gagnan, Cousteau’s father-in law, and Emile Gagnan his French colleague were also part the team. They were all familiar with Cousteau's research, and they decided to work together and create Aqua-Lung regulator.

The BC1

The BC1 Aqua Lung, an advanced back inflation BC, is for commercial, military, or public safety divers. With its rugged design, it offers superior comfort, fit, and stability. The manual also includes information on how to insert weights into each pouch. The BC1 is available in two different weight capacities, one for the chest and one for the back. The BC1 can also easily be modified to meet individual needs with the purchase of different weight pouches.

The Titan

The Aqua Lung Titan is a lightweight and highly portable regulator that integrates the features of previous generations. The Aqua Lung Titan's lightweight design makes it easy to use, and the soft polyurethane covers provide a snug fit. Its light weight and robust design make it easy for extended diving. It is reasonably priced, making it affordable to most people. The device includes two stages, one of which prevents unwanted freeflow.

The Mentor

Aqua lung Mentor, developed in conjunction with US Navy, is a regulator which replaces the old double hoses used for training divers for rebreather usage. While not yet available for sale to the general public, the Aqua lung is an excellent choice for professional divers looking for an alternative to the double hose regulators. Be aware of these things when purchasing the Aqualung Mentor. You must first calibrate it.
