Master Scuba Diver (MSD), is a level in scuba diving certification that allows for recognition. This certification is offered by several North American dive training agencies, such as the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (Scuba Schools International) and the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI). Instructors are available to guide new divers to safety, but master divers also have the freedom to dive solo or with a group for more challenging trips. A master diver can help you explore the seabed without a buddy, or to venture into remote locations.

Course requirements

Master diving courses are required. A master's certification is required in order to become a divemaster. You will be able teach and assist new divers to safely dive. You will need to be able help other students with problems underwater. The courses you've taken will teach you how to do that.


Master Diver students are required to log a certain amount of dives as part of their course. Some students may not consider 40 to be enough for a challenging course. Make sure you have reviewed your skills and done more fun dives in preparation for the course. Consider incorporating the Rescue course advice into your self-study.

Specialties offered by PADI

PADI has five specialties that it offers for its specialized courses. You have the option to choose from either the North East and Tropical curriculums. You can also choose from the list of electives to complete your program. By choosing a PADI course which combines multiple of your favorite dive types, 10% will be saved on all five courses. Once you have completed the PADI course, your specialty can be chosen and you can create your own curriculum.

You can begin looking for wrecks if you are already able to dive with enriched water. The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty opens the door to wrecks. You'll also learn about the benefits of underwater photography. You'll learn about the best underwater photography techniques and even how to choose and use a digital camera. You can even explore the world of photography by taking PADI's Digital Underwater Photographer course.

Requirements to become a divemaster

Divemasters supervise certified divers and act as instructional assistants, organizing and managing the day on the boat. Divemasters plan dives as well as create detailed maps that show the location, including points of interest and local facilities. The Dive Academy offers certification classes for those who wish to become a divemaster. Whether you wish to become a divemaster or simply help others become certified, you can learn the requirements to become a Divemaster and start your new career in diving.

Prior to starting your Divemaster course you must have completed either the Advanced Open Water Diver (or PADI Open Water Diver) course. You should also be certified in CPR and First Aid after completing this course. It is possible to get a Divemaster License, which can be used to gain employment in the diving sector or conservation. You can also apply for an internship in the diving sector if your goal is to dive in biodiverse locations and conservation.
