A regulator is used to control the breathing gas pressure for divers. While this is most commonly the case, a regulator can also control pressures for other gases used during diving. A dive regulator can also be called an alternate second stage. The cylinder containing the regulator is attached to the diver's tank. It is attached to the tank and allows the diver to inhale through it.
Scuba regulators

An O-ring on a Yoke Valve fits into a threaded fitting on the tank’s valve. An O-ring for a DIN valve is inserted into the first stage of the regulator's threaded connection.
